Rhine River sailings are among our best-selling river cruises. Itineraries navigate the Rhine Gorge, a scenic stretch of the river dotted with castles and vineyards. Visit Cologne and see the soaring twin steeples of its Gothic cathedral, and in Rudesheim, walk along the pedestrian-only Drosselgasse, lined with restaurants, shops and wine gardens. Passengers may also travel to Heidelberg, home to a Gothic castle and centuries-old university. Many Rhine itineraries include stops in Holland, Switzerland and France, too.

Flowing southeast from Germany's Black Forest, the Danube River takes guests to places like Regensburg, a well-preserved medieval city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Nuremberg, home to the Imperial Castle and 900-year-old city ramparts. The Danube converges with the Ilz and the Inn rivers in Passau, where cobblestone streets are lined with Roman, Baroque and Gothic architecture. Old World capitals like Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest are also popular stops on Danube itineraries.

The Main River winds through the heart of Germany, passing forests and vineyards as well as medieval towns and cosmopolitan cities. Visit Wurzburg, known as "The Pearl of the Romantic Road," and its Residenz, an immaculate Baroque palace. Amble among 14th- and 15th-century half-timbered houses in Miltenberg and visit the village known as "Little Venice" in Bamberg. The Main River is a tributary of the Rhine and is connected to the Danube via the Main-Danube Canal, so many itineraries spend time on all three rivers.

The Mosel River runs through Germany, Luxembourg and France; most of our cruises sail the German portion. Sailings of the Mosel are often combined with Rhine River cruises. Highlights include Trier -- Germany's oldest city, founded by Romans in 16 B.C. -- and Cochem, where Reichsburg Castle is perched on a steep hill above the river. Travel to Zell to learn about the famed Riesling wines that are produced there. In the old wine-growing town of Bernkastel, walking tours show off elaborate timber-framed homes.

The Elbe River travels a route through Germany and the Czech Republic that is lined with soaring cliffs, majestic castles and charming towns. See the impressive Saxon monoliths in eastern Germany and tour the Meissen factory that has produced delicate porcelain since the early 1700s.
